Conditional formatting is a very nice functionality in Excel wherein you can use up to three rules to automatically set a format of a cell. If you have cells in Excel that you want to be color coded or shaded depending on the rules you set then this is post is for you.
For the example below I will use below sheet with 2 columns:
To use conditional formatting on Column B labeled “PERCENTAGE” just click the column “B” to highlight the entire column:
However, for most Excel password protection
, it’s usually on the workbook or sheet so that someone can view the file, but not make structural changes to the file or changes to the cells. If this is your case, download the add-in and double-click on it. Excel will open and you’ll be asked whether to enable or disable the macros associated with the add-in. Of course, enable it.
Then go ahead and open the Excel workbook that has the password on it that you would like to get rid of. There will be two new menu options under Tools, called Unprotect Sheet and Unprotect Workbook.
I created a test workbook and protected both the sheet and the workbook with a simple password at first. The program worked perfectly and it removed the protection very quickly!
However, I decided to see how well it worked with a fairly complex password set to the workbook! I used 9 character password that had a combination of uppercase, lowercase, numbers and a symbol to put the Excel password remover to the test and I was quite surprised that it actually managed to crack it after about 2 minutes! Not bad at all!!!
Note, however, that this program only works with Excel 2000, XP and 2003. Excel 2007 has much stronger encryption and this little tool would take centuries trying to crack that.
Ever need to insert an Excel worksheet into a Word document and have them linked so that when you update the main Excel worksheet, it automatically updates the one in the Word document?
There are actually two ways to insert an Excel object into Word, linking and embedding. When you embed an Excel worksheet, the worksheet will not be updated when you update the main Excel file.
When you insert a linked worksheet, whenever you open the Word file, the linked Excel sheet will update it’s values to match the main external Excel file.
Office 2007 has a lot of improvements and, as a blogger, I particularly noticed its new ability to handle blog posts. In this post I will show you how to post and edit blog posts using Word 2007.
First, open Word 2007 then click New Document. Choose New blog post as a template:
On first use, it will ask you to setup your blog account. Enter the following information: Blog Post URL (i.e. this should be your own blog account’s URL, for example www.wordpress.com or www.blogger.com), user name and password. Check the remember password if you want this to be saved for your future blog posts. If you have many blog accounts, you can add more later.

The latest version of the open source word processor Abiword 2.6.5 comes with an innovation that was missed less: Support for Office Open XML, this includes support for text formatting, format paragraphs, page breaks, columns, tabs, footnotes, endnotes, headers, footers, fields, images, hyperlinks, bookmarks, lists, tables and text boxes.
With this new support we can open, edit and save documents OpenOffice Writer and Microsoft Word 2007. This version also fixes some bugs and improves export filter LaTeX, even now supports the export of equations.
Abiword 2.6.5 is available for Windows and Linux. We can also opt for its portable version to carry on the memory stick, a portable hard drive or even a CD to edit our documents on any computer without a trace.
